In the latest update of the Living Building Challenge (LBC) 4.1 in April, the European Standard on Indoor Air Quality and Ventilation Systems, EN 16798-1:2019, is recognised as the equivalent counterpart to the American ASHRAE 62.1-2022.
In practice, this means that it is no longer needed to provide calculations as per the ASHRAE 62.1-2022 on a European project for its Living Building Challenge assessment, specifically by the I09 – Healthy Interior Environment (Core Imperative) in the Health + Happiness Petal, but applying (and achieving the required levels) EN 16798-1:2019 is sufficient.
This is the latest European standard to join the list of those approved as equivalent to the American standards featured in LBC 4.1 – such as the EU Taxonomy Appendix E: Technical Specifications for Water Appliances, the EPBD for energy efficiency and the Certification by Minority Supplier Development UK.
