Living Spaces Programme & The Peer-learning visits

Funded through the Creative Europe programme of the European Union, Living Spaces is implemented by Eurocities and the Architects’ Council of Europe (ACE-CAE) and designed as a peer-learning programme to support local and regional authorities how to plan and implement high-quality architectural policies and projects.
For each of the peer-learning visits, there is an open call to select 20 participants. One of the main selection criteria is the alignment between the topic(s) of the visit and the learning needs of the applicants. Preparing the application can take between 30 minutes to 2 hours to complete. Travel costs are reimbursed. After the visit, participants become part of the Living Spaces Community.
Living Future Europe’s Loredana Stasisin had the opportunity to represent Eyes Hearts Hands as part of the Peer-learning visit in Cáceres – Spain.
Cáceres is a UNESCO protected site in the southwest of Spain, located atop a hilly landscape in the proximity of the Arroyo de la Ribera, the most important water source upon which the development of the whole region is historically based. For centuries, the area has long grappled with high temperatures, droughts, and heavy rainfall.
Santiago square is located in the northern buffer zone of the UNESCO protected area. It includes a monumental church surrounded by residential buildings and a public space that, for the past five years, has been the subject of a renovation process based on a participatory approach and a cross-sectoral cooperation. This is one of the 30 examples chosen to be included in the Living Spaces Catalogue, illustrating how European cities and regions transform their built environment with high quality, sustainable and inclusive solutions.
Cáceres and the challenges around the transformations of the Santiago Square could serve as a groundbreaking testbed for exploring urban acupuncture mechanisms, community water management systems, and sustainable heritage capacity-building processes.
Until July, 8, Living Spaces peer-learning visits are scheduled in Berlin, Cáceres, Toulouse, Prague, Vienna, Grand Paris Sud, Brussels and Bordeaux. The participants for these visits have already been selected.
A second call for visiting Oulu [Finland], Vilnius [Lithuania], Malmo [Sweden], or Gdansk [Poland] in the latter part of the year will be opened soon.
